Jesus is coming back for His church - we (those who have accepted Him as Lord and Savior) are the Church. As children of God, disciples of Jesus and enemies of the world, we have been sanctified (set apart for God's service) and have been equipped with the knowledge and the ability to share the Good New, God's message of Salvation - bringing the Word to a dying world that they may be united with the Father and share in the joy of being called His own to be set apart to do His will. Jesus prayed for future believers (us and those to come). He desire for us was not only to be His disciples, but to work together in unity.

Jesus came not only to die for for the fulfillment of salvation for mankind. He also came to magnify the relationship between Him and the Father. Jesus points to the sovereignty and Holiness of God, letting us know that everything that has been given to Him was given by God. In turn Jesus gave to us, so we are know equipped to bring glory to God through the work we do because of the work that was modeled for us by Jesus Christ. In our work we continue to grow closer and closer together through our familial relationship with Jesus Christ. This is necessary for us to work in unity...this was Jesus' prayer for us...that we experience joy even though we will be hated by the world.
Lesson Introduction: We find God's desire for us in His prayer in John 17. We find His desires for His disciples and for those who would come after them. If the Lord prayers for something He would like to see in the lives of His followers, that tells us what His desires are for us. His desires should then become our spiritual goals.
Today's Lesson Outline: 1. Prayer for God's Glory-John 17:6-8 2. Prayer for the Disciples-John 17:9-19 3. Prayer for Future Believers-John 17:20-21
